Many people around the world today have tried fad diets, fruit diets, eat all the bacon you want diets, and diet pills. Americans alone spend over 40 billion per year on diet related products. What are the first 3 letters of the word DIET? Exactly! Going on a diet does not promote healthy and permanent weight loss.
While you might lose a few pounds with a diet, they are not successful for the long-term. Have you ever gone “off” a diet and gained more weight back? Just changing the way you eat for the short-term and adding no physical activity will only make you worse in the end.
There is a way to achieve healthy and permanent weight loss.
You will have to change some of the foods that you currently like to eat and substitute healthier choices. Gradually, make changes to your diet and focus on the long-term benefits rather than trying to get the quick fix. There are also a lot of ways to prepare the foods you currently like in a healthier way and they will still taste good.
Along with changing your diet you will have to start exercising. For some that is getting off the couch and getting active. You don’t have to kill yourself in the gym but you will have to get off your _ _ _ and start moving. If you are new to exercising start with a walk around your neighborhood. Keep taking gradual steps in increase your activity. If you are exercising on a regular basis, you should notice that you want to eat healthier and here begins the process.
Why is yoga special and how will it help me lose weight?
1. Yoga is relaxing and relieves stress. If any part of your weight loss challenges are stress related, the stress relief benefits of yoga will only help your weight loss journey. Also, learning to breathe correctly can help you burn fat.
2. You do not need any special equipment. You will need a yoga towel and make sure you have a good yoga mat. You do not need to go to a gym, hire a personal trainer, or even leave your home to start seeing the benefits of yoga. A quick search for “yoga workouts for weight loss” on YouTube and you’re ready to start. Although I recommend seeking out a certified instructor, you can start with the basics in the comfort of your own home. Don’t worry if you can’t do all the yoga positions. The models in the videos didn’t start yesterday. Is is okay to modify the yoga positions or to come out of a pose early.
3. The more you practice yoga and gain control over yoga poses, the more you will have a sense of control and mastery of life. The stronger you become as a person on the inside the easier it will be to master the new you, including the food you eat.
As you develop in your yoga practice, you will start to have feelings of strength, and an over all better well-being. Your new feelings will motivate you to take even more control so that you will be able to continue in your progress with no desire or temptation to return to the way things used to be.
Good luck on your journey of healthy and permanent weight loss.
